The Solution
HAVELSAN M60 Tank Simulator at IDEF’21
HAVELSAN was founded in 1982 as a corporation owned by and affiliated with the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation. The company develops defense, security and information technology in-house, from high-tech systems to software. It also combines its own products with those of partner firms, which lets it deliver complete, end-to-end solutions to customers.
One part of this huge exhibition was the M60 Tank Simulator, based on the RCM-C420 motion cockpit. The HAVELSAN simulator has been developed to provide individual, crew and unit training to tank personnel. The system is designed to be portable, eliminating the need for tank units and personnel stationed at different physical locations to gather in a center for training, and in such a way that trainer functions can be performed remotely when necessary.
The M60 Desktop Tank Simulator consists of three consoles designed separately for the commander, gunner and driver. The driver training unit is based on the linear-actuator technology used in the RCM-C420 motion cockpit. Users can receive individual training on consoles with pre-defined scenarios relating to their duties, crew training with the integrated/co-use of three consoles in the same scenario, and unit training with the integrated use of more than one Desktop Simulator. In the system, training can be done both with generic terrain models and with real maps and terrain models in line with user demands.
